Substance Use Disorders
Patterns of behavior that involve the misuse of substances, leading to significant impairment or distress.
Abstinence Syndrome
A condition characterized by symptoms that arise when a substance used for a prolonged period is abruptly discontinued.
Tolerance
A condition in which a person requires increased amounts of a substance to achieve the same effect.
Withdrawal
A set of symptoms that occur when someone stops or reduces intake of a substance they are dependent on.
Benzodiazepines
A class of medications commonly used to manage anxiety and withdrawal symptoms, especially in alcohol withdrawal.
Seizure precautions
Safety measures taken to prevent injury in the event of a seizure, particularly in individuals undergoing withdrawal.
Disulfiram
A medication used to support abstinence from alcohol by causing unpleasant reactions to alcohol consumption.
Methadone
An oral opioid agonist used for the treatment of opioid dependence and to manage withdrawal symptoms.
Naloxone (Narcan)
An opioid antagonist used to reverse the effects of opioid overdose.
Bupropion
A medication that decreases nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms, used during smoking cessation.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy
Products designed to provide nicotine without the harmful effects of cigarettes to facilitate quitting smoking.
