Myth
A story made from pure imagination to explain:

Legend
A story where the main character, a hero, is a mortal instead of a supernatural. Who performs supernatural deeds.
Fable
A brief tale, in prose or verse, told to teach a moral lesson.
Folktale
A story passed down orally, reveals customs, beliefs, superstitions, and traditions of a specific group.
Epic
A long narrative poem, composed by 1 poet.
The Ordinary World
The original world of the hero. The hero is lacking something, or something is being taken from him.
The Call to Adventure
The hero is given a challenge, problem, or adventure. Establishes the goal of the hero.
The Refusal of the Call
The reluctant hero has to be set along the correct path.
Meeting the Mentor
The hero encounters a wise figure who prepares the hero for the journey. Gives advice, guidance, or an item.
Crossing the Threshold
The hero has committed to his task and enters the special world. Often met by a guardian.
Tests, Allies, and Enemies
In the special world, the hero learns the new rules by meeting people and obtaining new information.
Approach to the Innermost Cave
Now the hero and often his allies have come to the edge of the dangerous place where the objective is hidden.
The Ordeal
The hero faces danger, often a life or death moment that is either physical or psychological.
The Reward
After surviving the hero takes possesion of the object.
The Road back
The hero must now deal with the consequences of their actions.
Resurrection
One final test is required for the purification and rebirth of the hero.
Return with the Elixir
The triumphant hero returns to the ordinary world bearing the elixir.
