Process Addiction
A form of addiction that does not involve an addictive substance but is characterized by dysfunctional behaviors such as gambling, shopping, or sex that become habit-forming.
Salience
The significance of the addictive behavior in a person's life, often leading to neglect of other activities.
Mood Modification
Changes in mood that are experienced due to engaging in the addictive behavior.
Tolerance
The need for increased amounts of the behavior to achieve the same effect due to adaptation.
Withdrawal Symptoms
Physical or psychological symptoms experienced when the behavior is reduced or stopped.
Conflict
The discord between engaging in the addictive behavior and fulfilling other life responsibilities.
Relapse
The return to engaging in the addictive behavior after a period of abstinence.
