Beaker
A beaker is a simple container for stirring, mixing and heating liquids commonly used in many laboratories.
Beaker Tongs
Erlenmeyer Flask
Erlenmeyer Flasks are useful for swirling/ mixing, without risk of spillage. They Are suitable for boiling liquids. Hot vapors condense on the upper section of the Erlenmeyer flask, reducing loss of liquid. Erlenmeyer flasks’ narrow necks can also support funnels and stopper (aka covers)
Florence Flask
It is designed for uniform heating, boiling, distillation and ease of swirling.
Wide Mouth Bottle
Used for chemical storage
Graduated Cylinder
Graduated Cylinder is a piece of laboratory equipment used
to measure the volume of a liquid. Graduated cylinders are
generally more accurate and precise than laboratory
flasks and beakers. They are not used for Mixing.
Wash Bottle
A wash bottle is a squeeze bottle with a nozzle, used to rinse
various pieces of laboratory glassware, such as test
tubes and round bottom flasks.
Test Tub & Ignition Tube
Test tubes (on left) are widely used by chemists to hold, mix, or

indirectly heat small quantities of solid or liquid chemicals
Ignition Tube (right) is used for boiling under direct heat. Will be
labeled with the word Pyrex.
Test Tube Brush & Rack
Test Tube Rack: holds test tubes
Test Tube Brush: is used to clean test tubes and other glassware.
Test Tube Holder
Test Tube Holder: Used to hold and transport test tubes
safely. They are great for moving hot test tubes.
Buret
Burets are used in dispensing measured amounts of liquid.
They are accurate and must be read from the bottom of the
bubble. (see photo on left)
Graduated & Volumetric Pipet
Graduated Pipettes consist of a long tube with a series of graduations or marks to indicate different calibrated volumes.
Volumetric Pipette allow the user to measure a volume of solution extremely accurately (accuracy of four significant figures). These pipettes have a large bulb with a long narrow portion above with a single graduation mark as it is calibrate for a single volume.
Micro Pipet
Micro pipet : Is a disposable pipet. Used for moving small
amounts of liquid from one place to another. They are
inaccurate measuring tools.
Funnel
Funnel is a pipe with a wide conical mouth and a narrow stem. It is
used to channel liquid or fine-grained substances into containers
with a small opening. Without a funnel, spillage would occur.
Utility Clamp & Ring Stands
Utility Clamps are made with three prongs or with two rounded prongs, with one on each side. They are commonly used to hold laboratory glassware, such as Erlenmeyer flasks, distillation flasks, glass tubing, round bottom flasks.
Ring Stand: Is used to support utility clamps and ring stands for procedures such as boiling.
Ring Support & Wire Gauze
Ring Supports are used to support beakers on a stand while being placed over an open flame.
Wire Gauze are placed over ring stands so that beakers can be placed over them & heated. (See photo far right)
Crucible & Cover
A crucible is a container that can withstand very high
temperatures and is used for metal, glass,
and pigment production.
Clay Triangle
Clay Triangles: are used along with ring stands to hold a
crucible while being heated.
Crucible Tongs
Crucible tongs are large pincers made of welded steel that are
used to grasp and take a hot crucible out of a fire or furnace,
or to move a crucible from one location to another.
Bunsen Burner
The device in use today safely burns a continuous stream of a
flammable gas such as natural gas (which is principally methane) or
a liquefied petroleum gas such as propane, butane, or a mixture of both.
Types of Flames
In order for something to burn only fuel and oxygen are needed. On a
Bunsen burner the fuel is adjusted using the needle valve. The oxygen is
adjusted using a collar/sleeve at the bottom of the chemeny. When to
much fuel is present the 1st type of flame is produced. This is called a
dirty flame. The yellow flame is considered "dirty" because it leaves a
layer of carbon on whatever it is heating. When the ideal amount of
oxygen and fuel are mixed the 2nd type of flame is produced and appears
blue.
Burette Clamp
Buret Clamp: are used to hold burets. One end of the clamp
holds the buret the other end attaches to a ring stand.
Evaporating Dish
Evaporating dishes are used to evaporate liquid from a
sample. They may be lightly heated. Swirling or mixing in
these dishes is considered bad practice.
Mortar and Pestle
Used to grind chemicals into fine powders.
Watch Glass
A watch glass is a circular concave piece of glass used in
chemistry as a surface to evaporate a liquid, to hold solids
while being weighed, or as a cover for a beaker.
