When a business anticipates a change in the business environment and takes actions in advance to take advantage.

  • Conducting regular market research and staying informed about trends and changes in market.

  • Encouraging employees to come up with innovative ideas.

  • Meeting with employees and consultants to develop changes that would make the business more efficient or effective.

Reactive Change

A change that is often unplanned and occurs after the business has been affected by the pressures from its environment, such as responding to poor KPI data, or a new competitor entering the market.

  • Observing the actions of competitors and implementing similar processes to remain competitive.

  • Dealing with a crisis and putting measures in place so that it does not occur in the future.

  • Responding to forces that drive a need for change, such as social attitudes and legislation.

  • Reacting to strategies adopted by competitors.

  • Partnered with Oz Harvest to donate unsold food to help provide over 50 million meals.

  • 70% of Woolworths Supermarkets have a food waste recycling solutions to recycle food not suitable for consumption.

Proactive Change

  • Woolworths planned sustainability changes while they are still achieving excellent KPI results.

  • Considered the goals of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Packaging Targets, and proactively introduced these changes well before they will be required by law.
