New Deal
A series of programs and reforms implemented by Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the Great Depression, aimed at providing relief for the unemployed and stimulating economic recovery.
Hundred Days
The first hundred days of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration, during which a large number of reform bills were passed as part of the New Deal.
Glass-Steagall Banking Reform Act
Legislation that established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and included provisions to separate commercial banking from investment banking.
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
A New Deal program that hired young unemployed men to improve rural and outdoor environments, including planting trees and maintaining national parks.
National Recovery Administration (NRA)
A New Deal agency that aimed to stabilize the economy by eliminating cutthroat competition and establishing fair wages and hours for workers.
Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA)
A New Deal program designed to raise agricultural prices by paying farmers to reduce production.
Dust Bowl
A severe drought and dust storm event in the 1930s that devastated the Great Plains, leading to significant agricultural and migration issues.
Indian Reorganization Act of 1934
A law aimed at reversing the assimilation policies of the Dawes Act, restoring tribal autonomy and promoting economic well-being in Native American reservations.
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)
A New Deal project that brought electricity, economic development, and environmental improvements to the Tennessee Valley region.
Social Security Act
A landmark piece of legislation that established unemployment and old-age insurance programs financed by payroll taxes.
Wagner Act
Also known as the National Labor Relations Act, this law protected the rights of labor to organize and bargain collectively.
Fair Labor Standards Act
Legislation that set minimum wage and maximum hour standards for workers involved in interstate commerce.
Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO)
A labor organization that broke away from the American Federation of Labor to represent unskilled industrial workers.

Franklin Roosevelt's controversial proposal to add additional justices to the Supreme Court to gain favorable rulings for New Deal legislation.
Keynesianism
An economic theory advocating for increased government expenditures and lower taxes to stimulate demand and pull the economy out of a recession.
