What is a network protocol
A network protocol is a set of rules that define how devices on a network communicate with each other by specifying the format, transmission, and reception of data

(works like a postal service, packets of data are directed to the correct location.)

function: translates domain names into IP addresses, allowing users to access websites and other internet resources
