the principal quantum number is n. what does it do?
n tells you the amount of energy in an electron— the shell it occupies.
any positive nonzero integer!
(l)
within a shell, there are multiple values for the ANGULAR MOMENTUM quantum number. What’s that?
any number up to one less of n.
this determines what shape the electron is in.
the L subshell comes with the letters you’re familiar with! what are they?
S - 0
P - 1
D - 2
F - 3
m of l, is the magnetic quantum number. what’s that?
-1, 0, 1… it’s basically the absolute values plus zero.
it’s all the possible orientations an electron can be in. these orientations are called orbitals. each number designates for a specific orbital.
what are the shapes connected to the l number?
the angular momentum number’s shapes go as follows
0, s, spherical
1, p, dumbbell shaped
2, d, rosette or torus
3, f, whatever
Atomic radius
Increases as you go down, decreases as u move right
Ionization energy
Decreases as you go down, increases as you go across. Unless you slowly remove electrons for IE THAT TRANSCENDS SHELLS!
