removing stoppages, back flows, and scraps for continuous production
Pull
A system where nothing is produced until the customer downstream signals a need, allowing the customer to “pull” the product or service rather than having it “pushed” onto them.
Perfection
The ongoing pursuit of continuously reducing waste, effort, time, space, cost, and mistakes so the product better matches what the customer truly wants.
Defects (inspection, sorting, replacement, repair, scrap)
Efforts caused by rework, scrap, and incorrect information.
Overproduction
Production that is more than needed or before it is needed.
Waiting (delays, idle)
Wasted time waiting for the next step in a process.
Non-Utilized Talent
Underutilizing people’s talents, skills, & knowledge.
Transportation
Unnecessary movements of products & materials (movement from area to area)
