clusters of sensory neurons outside the spinal cord

sympathetic nervous system
network of nerves that prepare the organs for a burst of vigorous activity, consists of chains of ganglia to the left and right of the spinal cord’s central regions which connect back and forth with spinal cord and work often as a single system
what do sympathetic axons do?
prepare organs for “fight or flight”
parasympathetic nervous system
facilitates vegetative, nonemergency responses (rest and digest); opposite of sympathetic nervous system
how are the ganglia in the parasympathetic system different from those of the sympathetic system?
not linked together, acting more independentlywh
what do the parasympathetic nervous system’s axons release?
acetycholine
what do sympathetic nervous system axons release?
norepinephrine, sometimes acetycholine
