What was the Goodwin’s case?
The "Goodwin Case" (1604) drew a dispute in the early portion of James's reign. Sir Francis Goodwin, a known outlaw, was elected to parliament as MP for the constituency of Buckinghamshire. The election of outlaws had been prohibited by royal proclamation and James demanded that the commons exclude Goodwin from its membership. However, the commons claimed it should be the judge of its own election results and James after some dispute pragmatically backed down. This event did, however, create animosity between crown and parliament.

It was an idea proposed by James I where he wanted both kingdoms (Scotland and England) unite together to be “Great Britain”. This was suggested on 24th March 1603.

No, his idea was rebuffed by the English Parliament. He did not take into account beforehand the prejudice, bigotry and ignorance both countries had towards each other.

Gunpowder Plot (1605)
Bate's case (1606): A merchant named John Bate refused to pay for re-currants and he claimed that the duty had not be sanctioned by Parliament. This caused The Book of Rates (1608) to be introduced which brought in jobs such as impositions.
Book of Bounty (1608): Created by Robert Cecil in order to stop James from casually giving away lands, title and impositions.
The Great Contract (1610): Cecil made a scheme for the Crown.

What was the Addled Parliament like?
The Parliament only lasted a short amount of time due to conflict between the King and Parliament. This was due to James wishing he could raise the supply of £65,000 for taxation but would be rejected by the House of Commons. This was due to the concern of his extravagance.
Only lasted eight weeks (5th April- 7th June 1614)
What events occurred in the 3rd Parliament?
- Thirty years war started which caused James to ask the Parliament to fund him £500,000 for the military and naval to be made. He was only given 1/3.
- The Parliament demanded for war to be declared on Spain and impeachment on Francis Bacon.
-He returns for the second time and asks for £900,000 only to get £70,000.
- Parliament is shut down in Februrary 1622.

- Thirty Year war continued and finance remained an issue.
