What does Personality mean?
The sum of an individuals characteristics that make them unique.
What is a Trait?
The idea that a person has always had a feature of their personality and always will have (these characteristics are general, innate, and enduring)
What did Hans Eysenck believe?
He believed that personality was around 70% of a persons personality was genetic as apposed to being from the environmental influences. (nature and nurture)
What was Eysenck’s theory around arousal and people’s personality?
Introverts:
Quiet, reserved, enjoy low-arousal environments
Usually prefer individual sports
Perform best at lower levels of arousal because they are naturally more internally stimulated.
Extroverts:
Outgoing, sociable, enjoy high-arousal environments
Usually enjoy team sports
Perform best at higherarousal levels
Stable:
Calm, predictable, emotionally controlled
Perform consistently under pressure
Neurotic:
Anxious, unpredictable, mood swings
May struggle with high pressure/competitive situations
