FITT Principle
A guideline for creating an effective exercise program consisting of Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type.
Muscular Endurance
The muscle's ability to exert force and continue force over a prolonged period.
Hypertrophy
Increase in muscle size through resistance training.
Cardiorespiratory Fitness
The ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the muscles during prolonged physical activity.
RICE
An acronym for the proper treatment of injuries: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
A form of interval training that alternates between short periods of intense exercise and rest or low-intensity exercise.
SMART goals
A goal-setting framework that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
Muscular Strength
The maximum amount of force able to be exerted by a single contraction of a muscle or muscle group.
Aerobic Capacity
The volume of oxygen consumed by the muscles during exercise.
Overuse Injury
An injury resulting from the cumulative effects of day-after-day stresses placed on tendons, muscles, and joints during exercise.
