Thrust
The force that propels an aircraft forward, produced by engines or propellers.
Weight
The force exerted by gravity on an aircraft, counteracting (acting against) lift.
Drag
The aerodynamic resistance an aircraft encounters as it moves through the air.
Lift
The upward force that counteracts weight, allowing an aircraft to rise off the ground.
What happens to a plane when the forces acting on it are balanced?
It will NOT change speed or altitude.
What is Bernouill’s Principle and how it helps create lift?
As air moves faster, the pressure due to the air decreases. As air flows over the top of a wing, it moves faster, and the air pressure above the wing decreases. Thus, the pressure below the wing is higher and this helps push the plane up (lift).
What is Newton’s 3rd Law and how it helps create lift?
For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. It helps create lifts because for example, if a plane increases the angle of attack, the wings will push down more air which results in the air pushing back up, causing lift.
What is the difference between qualitative and quantitative data?
Qualitative data is based on opinion while quantitative data is based on exact measurements and precise numbers.
Identify the IV and DV (Independent and Dependent Variables): If a person eats lunch, then their measured stomach volume available for more food will decrease.
IV: Lunch eaten, DV: Stomach volume
What is the difference between a control group and experimental group?
The experimental group is the group that receives the change and the control group is the group that is set up exactly like the experimental group except for the one variable that is being tested so it can be used as a comparison.
What does it mean to keep factors constant in order to test only one variable at a time?
It means to keep all the other variables (constants) the same to test just the one independent variable at a time.
