When an irritable site within the atria discharges before the next SA node impulse
How is PACS recognized?
Atrial and ventricular rate usually normal (60-100)
P waves - premature
PR interval - Normal or prolonged
QRS - 0.11 sec or less
What are Aberrantly Conducted PACS?
PACs associated with a wide-QRS complex
What causes PACS?
Stimulants: caffeine, tobacco, cocaine
sympathomimetic medications, like epinephrine
Electrolyte imbalance
Stress
What is done with PACS?
Usually doesn’t require treatment

What is a non-conducting PAC?
Only a P wave may be seen with no QRS after the pulse
