Describe the motte and bailey

- MOTTE- hard to get up

- KEEP- spot invasions from miles away, elevated so hard to attack, safest place

- BAILEY- large, controlled area with Norman soldiers, horses and supplies

- PALISADE- made of wood, invaders couldn't climb up fence, trap/isolate prisoners inside and A/S outside

- DITCH- first line of defence

- MOAT- river
