Wavelength
The distance from one peak to the next
Frequency
The number of peaks passing by any point of each second
Speed formula
Wavelength x Frequency
Correlation of wavelength and frequency
Longer the length lower the frequency
Shorter the length lower the frequency
Photons
An individual particle of light, characterized by a wavelength and a frequency
Electromagnetic radiation (light)
The complete spectrum of light, including radio waves, infrared light, visible light, ultraviolet light, x rays, and gamma rays
Visible ligh
The light our eyes can see
Atomic number
Number of protons
Atomic mass number
Number of protons + neutrons
Isotopes
Forms of an element that have the same number of protons but different number of neutrons
Molecules
The smallest unit of a chemical element or compound
Compound
Molecules with two or more types of atom
Doppler effect
The effect that shifts the wavelengths of spectral features in objects that are moving toward or away from the observer
Doppler effect in more detail
As something moves farther away from the sound the sound waves stretch to longer wavelengths leading to a lower frequency and a lower sound. As something is moving towards the sound waves bunch up to shorter wavelengths leading to a higher frequency and more sound.
Blueshift
Usually for the left and is for things coming towards us
Redshift
Longer wavelengths of visible light are redder
For objects moving away from us
