How is this Vygotsky’s different than Piaget’s?
Piaget was convinced you cannot tell childern their dolls aren’t alive or that the water is the same amount in each glass and that they must naturally grow out of these ideas by manipulating objects on their own. But Vygotsky stated that people propel mental growth; he believed that adults make childern mentally advance
zone of proximal development
this is where Vygotsky said learning takes place.
the difference between what children can do by themselves and their levels of “potential development through problem solving under adult guidance or in collaboration with more capable peers”
scaffolding
teachers should tailor their instruction to the childs proximal zone and then as they become more competent, adults should slowly backoff and allow students more responsibility for directing their learning
Inner speech:
children regulate their behavior and master cognitive challenges by silently repeating info or talking to themselves
