Pons
A part of the brainstem connecting the right and left cerebellar hemispheres, contains the basis pontis and tegmentum.
Basis Pontis
The ventral part of the pons that appears as a rounded structure.
Tegmentum
The dorsal part of the pons that merges with the midbrain and medulla tegmentum.
Corticopontine Fibers
Fibers that carry information from the cortex to the pontine nuclei for movement coordination.
Reticular Formation
A network in the brainstem involved in regulating wakefulness and sleep-wake transitions.
Trigeminal Nerve
Cranial nerve responsible for sensation in the face and motor functions such as biting and chewing.
Corticobulbar Fibers
Fibers that convey impulses from the cortex to the cranial nerve nuclei in the brainstem.
Corticospinal Fibers
Fibers that travel from the cortex to the spinal cord, controlling voluntary movements.
Inferior Olivary Nucleus
A nucleus in the medulla that plays a role in learning and coordinating motor movements.
Medial Lemniscal System
A pathway transmitting sensory information such as proprioception and vibration from the body to the brain.
Spinothalamic Tract
A pathway involved in transmitting pain and temperature sensations to the brain.
Middle Cerebellar Peduncle
A structure that connects the cerebellum to the pons, facilitating communication.
