Sensory Memory

Storage of brief sensory events, like sights and sounds.

Short Term Memory (STM)

Temporary storage system that lasts about 15-30 seconds.

Long Term Memory (LTM)

Continuous storage of information believed to be unlimited.

Explicit Memory

Conscious memory of facts and events; includes episodic and semantic memory.

Episodic Memory

Memory of specific events and experiences, such as birthday parties.

Semantic Memory

Knowledge about words, concepts, and facts.

Procedural Memory

Memory for how to perform tasks or skills, like driving or brushing teeth.

Priming

Exposure to one stimulus affects the response to another stimulus.

Amnesia

Loss of long-term memory.

Anterograde Amnesia

Inability to form new memories after a traumatic event.

Retrograde Amnesia

Inability to remember events that occurred prior to a traumatic event.

Misinformation Effect

Increased likelihood of recalling inaccurate memories after exposure to misleading information.
