When does DNA replication take place in the cell cycle?

covalently links the ends together, resulting in a seamless strand of DNA
How does the proofreading activity of DNA polymerase reduce the error rate?
It detects and cuts mismatched nucleotides immediately after they are added
In which direction does proofreading occur?
3’-5’ direction
Why does this mean polymerization only occurs in the 5’-3’ direction?
because DNA polymerase can only attach nucleotides to the 3’ hydroxyl on the growing strand
What is the end replication problem?
the inability of cells to completely copy the very tips of their DNA strands

they act as repetitive DNA buffers at the end of chromosomes

How do telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes?

so they can divide indefinitely without dying
