• Origin: Galea aponeurotica 

• Insertion: Skin of eyebrow & bridge of nose

• Action: Elevate eyebrows

Temporalis

• Origin: Along temporal lines of Skull

• Insertion: Coronoid process of mandible

• Action: Aids in elevating the mandible

Orbicularis Oris

• Origin: Maxillary Bone & Mandible

• Insertion: Lips

• Action: Closes mouth

Orbicularis oculi 

• Origin: Medial margin of orbit

• Insertion: Skin around eyelids

• Action: Closes eyes

Platysma

• Origin: Cartilage of second rib & acromion of scapula 

• Insertion: Mandible

• Action: Depresses mandible; tenses the skin in neck

Zygomaticus Major

• Origin: Zygomatic Bone

• Insertion: Angle of mouth

• Action: retract/elevate the corner of mouth

Zygomaticus Minor

• Origin: Zygomatic Bone

• Insertion: Upper lip

• Action: retract/elevate upper lip

Masseter

• Origin: Zygomatic Arch

• Insertion: Mandible

• Action: Elevates the mandible

Sternocleidomastoid

• Origin: Clavicle head: sternal end of clavicle & Sternal head: to manubrium

• Insertion: Mastoid region of skull

• Action: Flex & rotate the head

Occipitaalis

• Origin: Superior nuchal line

• Insertion: Galea aponerotica

• Action: Retract the scalp
