autonomic nervous system

division of the PNS that supplies neural input to organs running involuntary processes

sympathetic nervous system

increases neural activity and puts the body in a heightened state

parasympathetic nervous system

decreases neural activity and promotes rest and digestion

what are the components of the autonomic nervous system?

the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems

muscle spindles

sensory receptors sensitive to changes in length of the muscle and the rate of change

golgi tendon organ

sensory receptor sensitive to changes in muscular tension and rate of change

where are golgi tendon organs found?

where skeletal muscle fibers insert into the tendons of skeletal muscles

what are the categories of bones?

long, short, flat, irregular, sesamoid

what are the six classification of synovial joints?

gliding, condyloid, hinge, saddle, pivot, and ball-and-socket joints
