Graphite

An allotrope of carbon in which each carbon atom is bonded to three other carbon atoms, forming layers of hexagonal rings.

Electrical Conductivity in Graphite

Graphite conducts electricity because one electron of each carbon atom is free to move.

Electrical Conductivity in Diamond

Diamond does not conduct electricity because all four electrons are involved in bonding.

Uses of Graphite

Graphite is used for making pencil leads and making electrodes.

An adaptation where desert animals sweat very little to reduce water loss.
