Internet
Defined as the information superhighway where anyone has access to place and grab info.
Information at Risk
Types of personal data including Mother’s and Father’s name, Sibling’s Name, Address, Home & Cell Phone Number, Birthday, Email Address, Full Name, and School records.
Cyber-creeps
Individuals who use personal information shared online to find and target users.
Strong Password (Criteria)
Must be at least 8 characters long, include at least 1 digit, 1 uppercase, 1 lowercase, 1 symbol (e.g., !, @, $, &), and contain no dictionary words or personal information.
Weak Password
A password consisting of all numbers or all letters, such as 'beckeriscool'.
Medium Password
An alphanumeric password, such as 'becker2cool'.
Strong Password (Example)
An alphanumeric password with a mix of upper and lower case letters, such as 'B3cker2C001'.
Malware
A type of software or program intentionally created to damage a computer, steal information, disrupt operations, or gain unauthorized access; derived from the words 'Malicious' and 'Software'.
Virus
A type of malware that attaches itself to files or programs and spreads to other files, often damaging the system.
Worm
A type of malware that spreads automatically across computers and networks without user action.
ILOVEYOU WORM
A malware that originated in the Pandacan neighborhood of Manila, Philippines on May 5, 2000, and spread westward across the world.
Trojan Horse
A threat that disguises itself as legitimate software but secretly performs malicious activities.
Ransomware
Malware that encrypts files and demands payment (a ransom) to restore access.
Spyware
Malware that secretly monitors user activity and collects personal information.
Adware
Software that displays unwanted advertisements and may track a user's online behavior.
Spam
Unwanted or unsolicited emails usually sent in large numbers by advertisers, scammers, or bots to promote products or trick users.
Phishing
A cyberattack where scammers pretend to be a trusted person or organization to trick people into revealing sensitive personal info like passwords or credit card numbers.
Netiquette
The ethics and etiquette of online behavior, including core rules like 'Remember the Human' and 'Respect other people's privacy'.
CTB-Locker
An example of ransomware that encrypts documents and photos, giving the user 96 hours to pay for a decryption key before the files are permanently lost.
Flame Wars
A netiquette concept referring to heated online arguments that users are encouraged to help keep under control.
