What is a closed system?
↳ No energy can escape or enter the system
What are some examples of energy stores and where does the enerfy come from?
↳ Kinetic- energy from movement
↳ Gravitational potential- from height
↳ Elastic potential- energy an object has when streched/copresses
↳ Thermal- energy from temperature
↳ Chemical- energy that can be transferred by chemical raection
↳ Nuclear- energy from atomic nuclei
↳ Magnetic- energy from magnetic fields
↳ Electristatic- energy from electric charges (near charged objects)
How can energy be transferred from different stores?
↳ Heating- one object to one with lower temperature
↳ Eletricity- eletric current
↳ Forces- when a force moves or changes shaoe of an object
↳ Waves
What is work done?
↳ When an object is moved by an object
What is the law of conservation of energy?
↳ Energy cannot be created or destroyed
What is lubrication?
↳ Way to reduce unwanted energy transfer due to friction
What is streamlining?
↳ Way to reduce unwanted energy due to air resistance or drag in water (eg-insulation)
What efficiency?
↳ A measure of how much useful energy is transferred
What does thermal conductivity show you?
↳ How quickly energy is transferred
What is a thermal insulator?
↳ A material with low thermal conductivity in order to reduce the transfer of heat energy
What is specific heat capacity?
↳ The amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of a substance by 1°C
What effects temperature when an object is heated?
↳ Mass
↳ Type of material
↳ How much energy is transferred
