Pathfinder
A feature used to combine or modify objects; accessed from the Pathfinder Palette to choose a pathfinder option.
Shape Modes
Options in the Pathfinder panel that determine how shapes interact; after selecting objects, choose a shape mode option and then click Expand.
Expand
Command to apply the selected pathfinder or shape mode result, finalizing the new shapes.
Pathfinders
A set of options for combining shapes, including Outline and Minus Back.
Outline
A pathfinder option used to alter how shapes are combined.
Minus Back
A pathfinder option that subtracts the back shape from the front.
Divide
Pathfinder option to split shapes into separate parts.
Trim
Pathfinder option used to trim overlapping shapes.
Merge
Pathfinder option that merges shapes into a single area.
Crop
Pathfinder option used to crop shapes to a shared boundary.
Grouping
Process of combining selected objects into one to apply commands easily.
Duplicating
Process of creating an exact copy of the selected object.
Align Palette
Palette used to align objects (position them relative to each other).
Aligning Objects
Process of lining up objects in a specific position.
Arrange Command
Command to manage the stacking order of objects; accessed by right-clicking.
Selection Tool
Tool used to select objects in the artwork.
Direct Selection Tool
Tool used to select individual points or segments on an object.
Zoom Tool
Tool used to zoom in or out on the artwork.
Hand Tool
Tool used to pan across the artboard.
Shape Tools
Tools used to create basic shapes.
Fill and Stroke Color
Tools to apply fill color and stroke color to shapes.
