Older part of the brain; the medulla and pans; responsible for heart rate and breathing

RAS

Nerve network that regulates alertness and arousal ; alterness control center

Cerebellum

Structure processes implicit memory and controls balance and coordination

Forebrain

Division of brain made of the cerebral cortex and limbic system

Limbic system

Group of structures in the forebrain that is our emotional control center

Thalamus

The relay station of the brain; receives most sensory signals and re-directs them to the correct lobe

Hippocampus

Neural structure that processes explicit memories

Amaygdala

Neural stucture responds to fear and anger inducing situations

Hypothalamus

Neural structure responsible for mainttenece of hunger, thirst, body temp, as well as the pituitary gland
