what plant to use?
use a potted plant with variegated leaves. (green for part of leaf - where there is chlorophyll and yellow/white for other part - no chlorophyll)
Destarching plant process
take plant and place in a dark cupboard so that its leaves do not contain starch.
Instructions
destarch plant
bring back into light and leave in daylight for several hours
test for starch (like in other experiment)
spread leaf out on a white tile
cover leaf with iodine solution
Expected results
Orange/brown colour on white part of leaf (no chlorophyll). no starch present as there is no chlorophyll.
blue/black on green part of the leaf (containing chlorophyll). starch present because there is chlorophyll.
