Tinea Corporis

ringworm

* fungal disease that occurs anywhere in the body
* ring shaped
* central clearing
* pruritic

Tinea Cruris

jock itch, a fungal skin disease occurring in the genital and anal areas in males

* reddened areas
* central clearing
* severe pruritus

Tinea Pedis

athletes foot, a fungal skin disease occurring in the feet

* exfoilating, fissuring, macerated area of erythema
* sites itch, burns, and/or sting
* occurs in interdigital folds between toes or on soles

Vitiligo

characterized by white patches os skin surrounded by areas of normal pigmentation probable autoimmune

Herpes Simplex I AND II

* small, scattered vesicles on erythematous base. painful and last 5-12 days
* can produce itching, aching, prodromal symp., neuralgia
* lies dormant in root nerve

Herpes Zoster

aka shingles

* acute infectious disease caused by varicella zoster virus
* ocular movement can lead to blindness
* pain along a nerve dermatome is often 1st symptom

syphilis (Primary)

caused by Treponema pallidum

* chancre
* highly infectious
* heals spontaneously within 3-6 weeks
* can be transmitted

secondary syphilis

* loss of patches of hair
* losing eyebrows
* a rash on the bottom of the feet/ hands
* may overlap with primary stage

Human Papillomavirus ( HPV)

* genital warts comes from HPV 6/11( low risk/ low cancer)
* HPV 16, 18, 31, 33, 35 can cause vulvar, cervical, or anal cancers
* asymptomatic

what does REEDA stand for

redness, edema , ecchymosis, discharge, approximation

non melanoma- basal cell cell carcinoma

* most common ( deepest part of skin)
* develop in sun exposed areas
* persistent non healing sore is a common symptom
* reddish patch
* shiny bump that is pearly

Non melanoma Squamous cell carcinoma

* can develop in scars, burns, etc.
* more aggressive than BCCS
* thick rough scaly red patch that crusts or bleeds
* elevated growth w. central depression

open sore that bleeds and crust for weeks

Melanoma

* majority of skin cancer deaths
* change in size and shape, color, and edges of a mole
* moles are asymmetrical
* borders are uneven
* multiple colors
* larger than 6 mm

Actinic Keratosis

* chronic exposure to UVB
* asymptomatic, rough, red, scaly, and poorly circumscribed lesions

risk factors for skin cancer

1. lighter complexion
2. more moles more risk
3. increases with age
4. men have more risk
5. sunburning
