Element
A pure substance consisting of only one type of atom that cannot be broken down into a simpler substance, with all elements listed in the Periodic Table.
Compound
A pure substance made up of two or more different elements chemically joined together in a fixed proportion, having different properties from the elements that make it up.
Gold
An element example represented as Au.
Oxygen
An element example represented by the molecular formula O2.
Iron
An element example represented by the symbol Fe.
Water
A compound example with the chemical formula H2O, formed from Hydrogen and Oxygen.
Salt
A compound example with the chemical formula NaCl, formed from Sodium and Chlorine.
Carbon Dioxide
A compound example with the chemical formula CO2, formed from Carbon and Oxygen.
