Scientific Models
Tools used by scientists to analyze complex processes, predict possible outcomes, improve scientific understanding, and study systems that are too small or too large.
Limitations of Models
The drawback of models, specifically that they simplify reality.
Building a Model
The process where scientists start with a small amount of data and build up a better representation of phenomena over time.
Mathematical Models
Models that are mathematical and run on computers rather than being a visual representation, while following the same principle.
Testing Ideas
A use of models that makes it much easier to work with a representation than with an entire system, such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Making Test Predictions
A use of models to predict the future based on observations and determine what types of changes can be expected.
Communication
A use of models to transfer ideas to other people and help them visualize ideas or abstract concepts.
