Holism
A concept that considers the whole person. The whole person has physical, psychological, social, and spiritual parts. These parts are woven together and cannot be separated

Esteem
Worth, value, or opinion one has of a person
Self-Esteem
To think well of oneself and see oneself as useful and having value
Culture
Characteristics of a group of people—language, values, beliefs, habits, likes, dislikes, and customs. They are passed from one generation to the next.
Religion
Relates to spiritual beliefs, needs, and practices.
Risk Factor
Something that increases the chances of illness or injury
Communication
Exchange of information—a message sent is received and correctly interpreted by the intended person
Verbal Communication
Uses written or spoken words to communicate
Nonverbal Communication
Does not use words to communicate
Body Language
Messages are sent through facial expressions, gestures, posture, hand and body movements, gait, eye contact, and appearance.
Paraphrasing
Re-stating the person’s message in your own words
Comatose
Unconscious; means being unable to respond to stimuli
