New Moon
Invisible phase of the moon. Illuminated side is facing the sun and the night side is facing the Earth.

Waxing Crescent
(Light coming from the right side) A tiny sliver peaks out from the moon. It will grow bigger and bigger daily.

First Quarter
(Light coming from right side) The Moon is know halfway through its monthly journey.

Waxing Gibbous
(Light coming from right side) Almost all of the moon’s dayside can be seen.

Full Moon
A full illumination of the moon’s dayside.

Waning Gibbous
(Light coming from left side) The lit side starts to appear to fade, is now NOT completely full.

Third Quarter (Last Quarter)
(Light coming from left side) The moon is half illuminated from the left side.

Waning Crescent
(Light coming from the left side) The Moon is nearly back to the day side being faced at the sun. Only a small illuminated part is seen.

Waning
Getting smaller. Illuminated from left side.
Waxing
Getting bigger. Illuminated from right side.
