1+3 Basic Theory
Medisod's core framework for learning which consists of one prerequisite, Metacognition, and three essential senses: Purpose Sense, Sequence Sense, and Active Sense.
Metacognition
Defined as 'thinking about thinking,' it is the ability to objectively observe and control one's own thought processes during study, acting as the starting point for all effective learning methods.
Purpose Sense (Mokjeok-gamgak)
The attitude of focusing on the final task or goal from the beginning shown by students who prioritize 'directionality' and avoid unnecessary effort that does not lead to exam results.
Sequence Sense (Sunseo-gamgak)
The ability to efficiently arrange the order of study activities, such as choosing between the 'Whole vs. Part' or 'Concrete vs. Abstract' to maximize learning efficiency.
Active Sense (Neungdong-gamgak)
The ability to use the brain actively to output knowledge, such as explaining concepts or reciting from memory, which determines the 'depth' of learning and understanding.
Study Diary (Gongbu-ilgi)
A tool used to record thought processes and problems encountered during study to improve metacognition and identify hidden inefficiencies.
Biased Cognition User (Pyun-hyang-in-ji-ja)
A person who understands the mechanisms of human cognitive biases and consciously strives to maintain an objective perspective and long-term gains over short-term impulses.
Circumstantiality (U-won-jeung)
A psychiatric term for a thought pattern where one reaches the intended conclusion but includes excessive, irrelevant, and roundabout information along the way.
Tangentiality (Sa-go-i-tal)
A psychiatric condition where a person loses the ability for target-oriented thinking and fails to reach the intended conclusion, wandering off into unrelated topics.
Feynman Method
An active learning technique named after scientist Richard Feynman, involving explaining a concept in terms simple enough for a 5-year-old to understand to identify gaps in one's own knowledge.
High-cost Study (Go-bi-yong Gong-bu)
Learning activities that consume significant 'brain stamina' and cognitive effort, typically including high-output tasks like solving new problems or mock exams.
High-performance Study (Go-seong-gwa Gong-bu)
Critical study tasks where the quality of the insight or result is paramount, such as analyzing past exam patterns, requiring these to be done when brain stamina is highest.
Dividing Theory (Na-nu-gi I-ron)
A planning strategy that breaks down broad study goals into specific, actionable steps to prevent being overwhelmed and ensure progress is actively controlled.
Elaboration
An inductive psychology term for decomposing new information (short-term memory) and combining it with existing knowledge (long-term memory) to achieve deep understanding.
Yerkes-Dodson Law
A psychological principle mentioned in the text suggesting that certain types of thinking or output are more effective when the brain's arousal level is appropriately high.
Saviston
