parametric equations
equations which define the x and y co-ordinates separately, in terms of a third variable t
x = p(t)
y = q(t)
converting between parametric and cartesian equations
make t the subject of the equation for x, then sibstitute it into y
ranges of parametric equations
the range of p(t) (the equation for x) is the domain of the cartesian equation
the range of q(t) (the equation for y) is the range of the cartesian equation
sketching parametric equations
sketch a table with the corresponding x and y values for every integer value of t in the range
p.o.i. between parametric and cartesian equations
substitute the parametric equation into the cartesian equation to get a quadratic equation which can be solved for t
