Nonionizing Radiation
Lower end of the electromagnetic spectrum; less harmful and does not cause damage to biological tissues.
Ionizing Radiation
Radiation caused by the release of particles and electromagnetic rays from the nuclei of atoms, capable of causing damage to human tissue.
Examples of Nonionizing Radiation
Includes visible light, infrared light, radio waves, microwaves, and cell phone radiation.
Hazardous Waste
Waste material that poses potential harm to human health or the environment, with an example of 30 million tons generated by manufacturers and individuals annually.
Rads
A unit of measure for radiation dose, often related to the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
