Passive Transport
Moves substances across the selectively permeable plasma membrane without energy input - high to low concentration
Active Transport
Moves substances against the concentration gradient requiring cellular energy (ATP)
Simple Diffusion
The movement of small non polar molecules across the plama membrane along their concentration gradient - high to low.
Facilitated Diffusion
The movement of larger polar molecules across the plasma membrane with transport proteins along their concentration gradient - high to low.
Osmosis
The movement of water across the plasma membrane from an area of low solute concentration to high solute concentration.
Vesicular Transport
The movement of large molecules across the plasma membrane within vesicles.
Phagocytosis
Cell eats large particles/microorganisms by putting pseudopods on the particle/microorganism
Pinocytosis
The cell drinks the extracellular fluid and dissolved solutes by forming vesicles at the plasma membrane.
Receptor-Mediated Endocytosis
Endocytosis where target molecules bind to receptor proteins on the surface, triggering vesicle formation
