Chemical Substance
An element or compound with a specific chemical composition and purpose, which can perform specific roles in household and personal care products.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate
A chemical substance commonly found in shampoo that functions to remove dirt and oil from hair.
Fragrance
An ingredient added to personal care products, such as shampoos, to provide a pleasant scent.
Preservatives
Chemical substances added to products to prevent spoilage and inhibit the growth of microorganisms over time.
Bleach
A household chemical product that disinfects surfaces, removes stains, and prevents disease-causing microorganisms.
Baking Powder
A chemical mixture used in cooking that reacts with heat to produce carbon dioxide gas (CO2), causing dough to rise.
Ionic Compounds
Compounds formed through the transfer of electrons, usually composed of metals and nonmetals, such as Sodium Fluoride (NaF) and Sodium Hypochlorite (NaClO).
Covalent Compounds
Compounds formed through the sharing of electrons, usually composed of nonmetals, such as Water (H2O) and Glycerin (C3H8O3).
Sodium Fluoride
An ionic compound (NaF) added to toothpaste to protect teeth, prevent cavities, and improve oral health.
Sodium Hypochlorite
An ionic compound (NaClO) present in bleach that serves as an active disinfecting and stain-removing agent.
Sodium Bicarbonate
An ionic compound (NaHCO3), commonly known as baking soda, used in cooking and household cleaning products.
Glycerin
A covalent compound (C3H8O3) frequently used in personal care products for its moisturizing properties.
Louis Pasteur
