Congestion
A network condition that occurs when the amount of network traffic exceeds the available bandwidth or the capacity of network devices, resulting in delays, dropped packets, and reduced network performance.
Bottleneck
A device, link, or resource that limits the overall performance of a network because it cannot process or transmit traffic as quickly as the rest of the network.
Bandwidth
The maximum amount of data that can be transmitted over a network connection in a given amount of time.
Throughput
The actual amount of data successfully transmitted over a network connection in a given amount of time.
Latency
The time delay between sending data from a source device and receiving it at the destination across a network.
Packet Loss
The failure of packets to reach their destination, often causing retransmissions and reduced performance.
Jitter
The variation in packet arrival times, which can negatively affect real-time applications like VoIP and video.
