Matter

Homogeneous

Heterogeneous
Having many phases, or non-uniform.

Alloy
A solid solution made up of 2 or more metals.
Density
Mass per unit volume.
Ion
What an atom becomes after it loses or gains electrons.
Atom
The smallest part of an element.
Molecule
The smallest part of a compound
Element
Pure substance containing identical atoms
Compound
Pure substance containing identical molecules
Ionic compound
The type of compound formed by a metal and non-metal.
Halogens
The elements in Group 17.
Alkali Metals
The name for the Group 1 elements.
Valence Electrons
The electrons on the outer energy level of an atom.
Group
A vertical column on the periodic table.
Period
A horizontal row on the periodic table.
Particle Theory of Matter
Theory that states that all matter is composed of particles which are in constant motion.

Observations which use numbers.
Qualitative Observations
Observations which use descriptions/words.

Elements which have luster, are ductile and conduct heat and electricity.

Elements which do not have luster, are not ductile and are not good conductors of heat and electricity.
