Drug

Addiction

A physical or psychological craving for a drug.

Dependency

A state in which the person's body has adjusted to the regular use of a drug.

Stimulants

Drugs that increase alertness, altering a person's mood by increasing energy.

Hallucinogens

Drugs that can distort sensory perceptions.

Depressants

Drugs that slow the operation of the central nervous system.

Alcoholism

Addiction to alcohol.

Codependency

Behavior on the part of others that helps a substance abuser continue the abuse.

Decriminalization

Reducing or removing severe criminal penalties that punish drug offences, especially the personal use of drugs.
