Person Process Context (PPC) model
A model of self-directed learning proposed by Hiemstra and Brockett (2012) used to understand optimal circumstances for learning through three key elements: person, process, and context.
Process
An element of the PPC model that involves the actual teaching and learning interaction, including learning skills and styles as well as planning, organizing, and evaluating abilities.
Single-minded pursuit
One of the top 10 characteristics linked to self-directedness identified by Gibbons et al. (1980) that Lincoln demonstrated regarding the preservation of the union.
William "Duff" Armstrong
The defendant in an 1858 murder case whom Lincoln successfully defended by using the almanac of 1857 to prove that the moon was not high in the sky at the time of the crime.
William Herndon
Lincoln’s longtime Springfield law partner who recalled that Lincoln would often sit at his desk reading aloud to listen to how words sounded before giving a speech.
