What are the two types of statistics?
Descriptive and Inferencial
What are descriptive statistics?
Statistics that describe something. Includes more than numbers like bar graphs, pie charts, graphs, etc. They summarize a data set.
What are inferential statistics?
They draw a conclusion from statistics. They have samples, controls, and are testing to get outcomes for a conclusion.
What are observational studies?
Collecting data by observing something in its natural environment. It does not have control groups or variables.
What are designed experiments?
They can be medical studies and they have control groups and variables to specifically test something, get an outcome, and draw a conclusion.
What are the 3 methods of obtaining information?
Census, sampling, and experimentation
What is a census?
gather information from every item/person/etc.
What is sampling?
take a small group out of the whole population
What is experimentation?
controls and tests for certain things
What is a simple random sample?
procedure where any combination has the same probability of being chosen as any other which eliminates biases
What is SRSWR?
simple random sample with replacement - a combination can be chosen twice
What is a representative random sample (RRS)?
reflects as closely as possible the characteristics of the population
What is systemic random sampling?
