advisory committee
usually consist of individuals who are in a position to periodically report on their actual experiences related to some common issue. in doingso, members of the committee may offer their advice to a key individual who is bringing them together or to another group of people who will be making programmatic decisons.
capacity assessment
a measure of actual and potential individual, group, and community resources that can be inherent, and/or brought, to bear for health maintenance and enhancement. The process of mapping community assets is included in the capacity assessment.
coalition
a group of diverse organizations and constituencies working together towards a common goal
Needs assessment
the process of identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing the needs of a priority population
qualitative data
data in narrative form, which is collected to better understand motivation, thoughts,feelings, and behaviors.
quantitative data
data collected in numerical form that can be counted and analyzed using statistics
Planning committee
Advisory committee members, experts, and agency staff. The lifespan of this committee may be episodic (with limited duration) or continuing (on-going)
primary data
data that a health education specialist collects directly ( via a survey , a focus group , in - depth interview , etc. ) , which are used to answer unique questions related to the specific needs assessment
secondary data
data that already have been collected by others that may or may not be directly gathered from the individual or population being assessed.(Examples include existing research published in peer - reviewed journals and / or datasets , such as the United States Census , Vital Records , and Disease Registries.)

individuals or agencies with a vested interest in health education program
social determinants of health
conditions in which people are born, live,work,play, as well as age, that affect their health risks , health , daily functioning, and quality of life.
Programs
are defined as a set of planned activities over time designed to achieve specific objectives
Program planning
is the process of identifying needs, establishing priorities, diagnosing causes of problems, assessing and allocating resources, and determining barriers to achieving objectives
Vision statements
are a brief description of where the program will be in the future, usually in three to five years. Among the elements considered are future products, markets, customers, location, and staffing
Mission statements
are a short statement describing the focus or purpose of a program. The mission statement underpins the development of program goals and objectives
Goals
are statements of the intent and direction of a program as well as the end results desired. The target population is identified and action words such as reduce, eliminate, or increase are used
Objectives
are precise statements of intended outcomes of the program. In measurable terms, they are used to describe the changes in behavior, attitude, knowledge, skills, or health status that will occur in the intervention group as a result of the program. Objectives are small, specific steps that enable the goal to be met and serve as a bridge between a needs assessment and a planned intervention
Community-based programs
are delivered at locations considered within community boundaries rather than at a centralized location outside of the community parameters. Programs are generally delivered in libraries, local churches, schools, recreation centers, and local clinics
Logic models
are a tool for program planning and evaluation that shows the relationship of inputs and activities to outputs, immediate outcomes, and long-term outcomes
Models
are a mixture of ideas or concepts taken from any number of theories used together
pilot testing
is a set of procedures used by planners to try out a program on a small group of participants prior to actual implementation
Theories
are a set of interrelated concepts, definitions , and propositions that presents a systematic view of events or situations by specifying relations among variables to explain and predict the events of the situation.
