Becoming culturally competent. Formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech.
Equity
Provides equal access to opportunity and success. Levels the playing field so everyone has an equal starting point.
Inclusion
A multiplicity of voices, skills, and interests represented in any situation.
Personal Identity
Captures what distinguishes one person from another based off life experiences.
Collective Identity
How groups form around a common cause or belief. Is as much physical formation as it is a shared issue they believe in - (Political ideology, social movement).
Social Identity
Shapes our public lives by our awareness of how we relate to certain groups. (Korean-Americans, Chicagoans, Methodists, Lakers Fans) Can influence our interactions with each other.
Role Identity
Defines how we interact in certain situations. Roles change from situation to situation (Mother, Father, Coworker, Employee, Student, Teacher).
Explicit Bias
Being aware of certain prejudices or attitudes towards specific groups, positive or negative.
Implicit Bias
Prejudices, judgements, or attitudes we unconsciously hold.
External and internal traits that make up one's identity (height, clothing, race, sexual preference, political beliefs, morals, religious beliefs).
Identity
Incorporates memories, experiences, relationships, and values that create one's sense of self. A sense of who you are and become over time.
