traditional farming techniques, mostly substinence farming so little profit, most work in primary sector
stage 2: pre-conditions for take off
better technology used which means better crops and more money, most work in primar but increase in secondary sector jobs
stage 3: take off
understanding more money in manufactoring raw materials, profits reinvested, development occurs, primary sector jobs decline and rapid increase in secondary sector
stage 4: drive to maturity
technology increases, more specialisation of tasks and industry grows, people get richer, secondary jobs remain stable, rapid increase in tertiary jobs
stage 5: high mass consumption
most work in secondary and tertiray sectors, wealth trickles down into society, mass consumption means more goods = more jobs = people get richer
