Tendons
Connects muscle to bone.
Ligaments
Connects bone to bone.
Origin of a muscle
Attached or fixed to a more immovable bone.
Insertion of the muscle
Attached to a more movable bone and is more distal.
Belly of the muscle
The thick middle section of the muscle.
Agonist (Prime Mover)
The muscle that does the majority of the work.
Synergists
Help the prime movers.
Antagonist
Does the opposite action of the agonist.
Orbicularis Oris
Circular muscle around the mouth.
Orbicularis Oculi
Circular muscle around the eye.
Masseter
The muscle used for chewing.
Temporalis
Also involved in chewing, located on the temporal bone.
Sternocleidomastoid (SCM)
Muscle that gives you the motion of turning your head.
Pectoralis
Muscles in the chest.
Deltoid
The shoulder area and muscle.
Latissimus Dorsi (Lats)
Back muscle, good for lat pulldowns
Trapezius
Shaped like a trapezoid
Rotator Cuff Muscles
Four muscles, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis.
Achilles Tendon
Attaches calf muscles to the calcaneus bone.
Mastication
The act of chewing.
Breathing Muscle
Muscles in between our ribs, these intercostal muscles.
