No study sessions yet.
Contraindications for MMT
Same as ROM plus additional factors.
Precautions for MMT
Same as ROM plus additional factors, focusing on safety and warning signs.
MMT Score of 0 (Zero)
No evidence of contractility; total paralysis.
MMT Score of 1 (Trace)
Evidence of slight contractility (no joint motion); palpable or visible contraction.
MMT Score of 2 (Poor)
Active movement; full range of motion with gravity eliminated.
MMT Score of 3 (Fair)
Active movement; full range of motion against gravity.
MMT Score of 4 (Good)
Active movement; complete range of motion against gravity and moderate resistance in a muscle-specific position.
MMT Score of 5 (Normal)
Complete range of motion against gravity with full resistance in a functional muscle position expected from an otherwise unimpaired person.
3 Factors in MMT Grading
Amount of movement, whether testing is against gravity or gravity eliminated, and manual resistance.
Where to apply resistance during MMT
At the distal end of the segment if the patient can go full range against gravity.
Break Test Procedure
The patient performs AROM, holds the position, and the therapist applies force in opposition to the contracting muscle.
MMT Activities Considerations
Assess differences in strength using concentric, eccentric, and isometric contractions. Vary test positions. Repeat tests multiple times.
Supporting Patient during MMT
Support all joints when lifting/moving a limb; relax hand grip; cradle part of limb with forearm.
Purpose of Draping during MMT
Modesty and comfort; should not limit ROM.
Assessment Requirements by SPTA
Wash hands, Introduce self as SPTA, Patient history, SPTA Observation, ROM-observational/visual, Pain Assessment, SPTA Measurements goniometric measurement of PROM; AROM
Muscle Actions
Hip Flexion, HIP Extension, Hip Hyperextension, Hip ABD, Hip ADD, Medial Rotation (IR), Lateral Rotation (ER),Combined hip flexion & ABD, Combined hip flexion, ABD & ER, Combined hip flexion & ADD
