Health
A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
Global Health
A field that transcends national boundaries and places a priority on improving the well-being of people and the planet through service, education, research, and advocacy and achieving health equity for all.
Population Health
The health of groups of individuals including the distribution of characteristics and health outcomes within the group.
Public Health
What society must do to keep people healthy, involving the collection of data, assessment of problems, and assurance of health protection.
Social Ecological Model
A framework to understand the dynamic connection between health and a diverse array of personal and environmental factors.
Social Determinants of Health
Key factors influencing health, consisting of economic stability, education access and quality, healthcare access and quality, neighborhood environment, and social and community environment.
Health Indicators
Quantifiable characteristics of a population that are used to describe the health status of a population and reflect measures that summarize information about priority topics related to population health or health system performance.
Epidemiologic Transition
A state characterized by high and fluctuating mortality, due to poor health, epidemics, and famine.
Demographic Transitions
Population dynamics marked by high fertility and mortality, hygiene and nutrition improvements, declining mortality and fertility, and an increasing relative proportion of the elderly population.
Risk Factors
Personal habits and behaviors, environmental conditions, or inborn or inherited characteristics that are known to affect a health-related condition.
Global Burden of Disease
Risks to health and health outcomes in different demographic populations and social settings, categorized into NCDs, communicable diseases, and maternal, neonatal, and nutritional diseases and injuries.
Health Worker Migration
The migration of healthcare personnel that increases the burden to care for a society and results in the need to shift tasks primarily to nurses and community health workers.
